José, Michigan
A migrant worker from Mexico, Joséwas employed in a Michigan nursery until he was laid off. With limited English, no stable source of income, and no driver’s license, José struggled to find housing or a new job. Despite his situation, José wanted to improve his life.
After a recruitment event, José enrolled in Telamon-TRC’s National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP). Through NFJP, Telamon provides services that educate, train, and prepare eligible farmworkers for other jobs. By identifying career paths and assessing skills and interests, trained Telamon-TRC staff work one-on-one to help individuals develop a plan and achieve their educational and career goals.

With his goals in mind, the compassionate staff at Telamon-TRC in Michigan helped Jose with job placement at Boar’s Head Provisions Co., Inc., a manufacturer of premium delicatessen meats, cheeses and condiments. Telamon also assisted in locating an education and training program through which he received his CDL. Today, thanks to resume-building skills and experience gained with the assistance of Telamon-TRC, José has relocated to Texas where he is employed at a CDL driver, with better wages and a better life.
