Success Story: JAG Program Helps High School Students Plan for Successful Futures
Bethany, Indiana
When Bethany enrolled in TRC’s Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program, she was reserved and cautious. Raised by an unemployed mom with only a high school diploma, Bethany overcame many obstacles.
When she started high school, Bethany had a 2.3 grade-point average and struggled with reading and math skills at fifth-grade levels. Then, in her senior year she found TRC’s JAG program and a new direction.
Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Program is a school-to-career program for juniors and seniors that works to prevent dropouts and keep young people in high school through graduation. TRC’s JAG program provides an array of counseling, employability skills development, career association, job development, and job placement services. The goal of the program is for students to find a quality job leading to a career after graduation and/or enrollment in a postsecondary education and training program.
With support from TRC, Bethany is paving the way for a bright future.
Through the TRC JAG experience Bethany identified several potential career paths. In 2016, Bethany received the competitive JAG state award for Outstanding Senior.
Today, Bethany is attending Ivy Tech Community College (IN), working toward a degree in office management, while also holding down a part time job. With support from TRC, she’s paving the way for a bright future.
JAG is part of Telamon-TRC’s Workforce & Career Services programs, a broad array of customized work readiness and job skill training programs in ten states.
