Telamon Corporation Announces the Election of a new Board Chair

Thomas Jeff Carmon III, Raleigh, North Carolina

Telamon Corporation is pleased to announce the election of new board officers at its fourth quarter Governing Board meeting on August 20.

Current member Thomas Jeff Carmon III was selected as the new board Chair, taking the place of former Chair, Mary Wedgeworth, who completed the maximum number of terms in that office.

“As Chair of the board for the past four years, Mary has been a pleasure to work with; she has a passion for the mission of Telamon and has always been ready to jump in to support where needed,” said Telamon Chief Executive Officer, Suzanne Orozco. “I’m glad she will continue on the board and support Jeff in his new role as Chair.”

Thomas Jeff Carmon III is counsel with Mycovia Pharmaceuticals Inc, where he served as contracts manager since 2019. He is responsible for leading contracts activities and implementing corporate wide risk management programs. From 2009-2021, he worked as counsel with The CW Law Group, a small firm that provides legal services including small business law, personal injury law and family law, to Durham and surrounding area residents. Carmon brings to the board 14 years of experience as an attorney. He holds a Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where he worked as an adjunct professor from 2015-2021. In 2011, Carmon joined a two-year fellowship with William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations, where he learned core principles and practices of integrity and inclusion.

Commenting on the new Chair-elect, Suzanne Orozco, stated: “I love that Jeff accepted the nomination as Chair after realizing how much he connected with our mission. I am excited to work with him in this new role, he is a strategic thinker and will help shape the agency’s direction as we move forward.”

The three other Officers of the board include Chris Schuster, Vice President, Information Systems at Grain Craft Inc., elected as Vice-Chair, David Hood, retired Ernst & Young Global Audit Partner and OHS Financial Expert, elected as Treasurer, and Jenny McEntire, former Telamon NC State Director of Workforce and Career Services, elected as Secretary. A newly appointed board member is Laura Phipps, Program Coordinator of Family and Children’s Resources Program, UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work.

The members of the Governing Board bring diverse expertise and will provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization that empowers individuals with education and important life skills. They support and promote organizational growth and Telamon’s mission to provide educational services that lead to better jobs, better lives, and better communities.
