Telamon Envisions A Financially Literate Future
April 13, 2016
Salisbury, MD (04/01/2016) – In conjunction with Jump$tart’s national partners, 51 affiliated state coalitions, financial educators and other members of the financial literacy community, Telamon once again will champion a month-long campaign in April to raise public awareness about the importance of financial literacy. Jump$tart shares a commitment to advancing financial literacy among pre-school through college-age youth and working collaboratively toward effective financial education. This year, we invite you to “Envision a Financially Literate Future.”
“As the original promoter of April as Financial Literacy Month, the National Jump$tart Coalition, its partners and affiliates – including Telamon – lead the way in raising public awareness about the importance of financial literacy and the need for financial education,” said Jennifer Shahan, State Director. “With this year’s theme, the National Jump$tart Coalition not only acknowledges the importance of preparing young people for the future, but preparing them for their future.”
National Financial Literacy Month, sometimes referred to as National Financial Capability Month, is a month-long campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of financial literacy and the need for financial education; encouraging collaboration and acknowledging the many and diverse contributions that organizations like Telamon have made in support of this effort.
Financial literacy isn’t just a one-month event. With ongoing efforts we work throughout the year to create a “financially literate future.” Shahan says, “The goal of our financial literacy effort is to provide our community members with the knowledge and skills they need to make good financial decisions on their own. This strengthens our community by empowering individuals toward a more financially literate future.” Telamon offers FREE Financial Education Workshops and one-on-one counseling to help you gain control of your finances. Classes are currently held at the One Stop Job Market and are available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
