RFP - Michigan Seeking Early Childhood Mentor-Coaches for our 2016 Migrant Head Start Season

Telamon Corporation-Michigan Migrant Head Start is seeking to contract with experienced Mentor-Coaches to support Education Specialists and teaching staff in providing quality classroom practices and interactions in the infant/toddler and preschool classrooms. We are an organization that provides Head Start and Early Head Start Services to the migrant and seasonal agricultural population throughout Michigan.

Center locations include:

Adrian, Bear Lake, Suttons Bay, Walkerville, New Era, Heart, Mears, Pullman, South Haven, Decatur, Keeler, Watervliet, Sodus, Spinks Corner, Conklin, Kent City, Buen Pastor (Holland) and Sparta

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in planning mentor coaching program activities including regional teacher trainings.
  • Provide Practice-Based Coaching to no more than (10) protégés
  • Attend and receive training in the following areas:
    • 2-day Preschool CLASS (Classroom Assessment and Scoring System) Observer Reliability training and get certified
    • S.O.L.A.R (Strengthening Operations for Learning and Results) observation tool
    • Practice Based Coaching
    • Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment Tool
    • Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework
    • Michigan Migrant Head Start School Readiness Plan/Goals
    • Michigan Childcare Licensing Rules and Regulations
    • Telamon’s Policies and Procedures, Best Practice and Career Development
  • Conduct side by side individual classroom observations with the center Education Specialist focusing on PBC, teaching styles, developmentally appropriate practices, and strategies, child assessment and observation techniques

Requirements for position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or related field
  • Preschool CLASS Observer Reliability certification
  • Professional liability insurance of $3,000,000 annually (can provide upon employment).

Additional skills/experience preferred:

  • Bi-lingual abilities in Spanish.
  • Experience working with young children and adults
  • Basic computer knowledge

Typical program operation runs from May until December. All services will be provided at our centers unless a special circumstance arises.
